Three Tips to Keep Your Cottonwood & Prescott Home Comfortable During the Winter Months

November 24, 2015

The plummeting temperatures in Cottonwood & Prescott aren’t going anywhere, and while it’s not hard to daydream about the warmer weather, it’s important to remember that you can stay just as comfortable during winter. Of course, your furnace plays a huge role in this, which is why it’s so important to keep up with annual furnace service.

We do have to note that there are only a couple things that will contribute as much to your comfort this winter as a well-tuned furnace. That’s why furnace service should be completed annually. After all, who wants to spend a frigid winter not knowing if their furnace is going to keep them comfortable the whole time?

Already done with your annual furnace service? Here are a handful of other tasks you can do to help keep your home comfortable:

  • Energy audit — most energy companies will offer an energy audit for your home so you can find areas that need addressed. You may be surprised what areas are allowing hot or cold air to escape.
  • Weatherstripping — regardless of which door it is, doors permit the opportunity for a lot of cold air to get in to your home. However, when your door is shut, you can still have air making its way in your home. Check to see if your weatherstripping is in-tact or if it’s worn, torn, or damaged in any other way that could be permitting cold air inside. If you find any problems, weatherstripping is basic to replace and could take care of the problem.
  • Recessed lighting — one of the most common culprits for air leaks could be your recessed lighting. Depending on the light’s age, they may be letting all the hot air in your home get out through your ceiling. Fixing this is as simple as sealing it with caulk or aluminum tape.

These couple of tips are just the beginning, but do realize that there are other simple fixes you can complete once you’ve had annual furnace service completed. Many of them can be cost-effective and easy jobs to complete on the weekend.
