Your air conditioner has worked hard this summer and we still have some more heat coming. Just because the date on the calendar has changed over to fall doesn’t mean you’re through with your AC for the season. Keeping up with annual AC maintenance, while also following a few other tips, can help you maintain your air conditioner while keeping your home cozy too.
Clean Around Your Outdoor Unit
Debris can build up around your outside unit, especially during the fall. When it comes time to rake up the leaves in your yard, be sure to rake up the leaves and debris around your air conditioner. Debris can hinder air flow, causing your system to work harder and wear down sooner. We want your air conditioner to last as long as it can.
Raise the Temperature on Your Thermostat
Keep your thermostat set at the highest temperature you can while still staying comfortable. Whenever possible, use additional cooling methods such as fans. The lower you set your
thermostat, the harder your system will have to work to attain that temperature. You may think shutting off your unit completely will save on energy and help your system, but that just creates more ground for it to make up when you turn it back on. It will have to work harder for a longer amount of time, which is something else that could lead to untimely system failure.
